Biography

Valeria Patricia Sülsen is a Researcher of The National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) working at The Institute for Drug Chemistry and Metabolism (IQUIMEFA) – University of Buenos Aires (UBA). She is Assistant Professor at the chair of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, UBA, Argentina and member of the Research Network of Natural Products against Neglected Diseases (ResNet NPND). In 1998, she graduated as a Pharmacist and, in 2009, she obtained the degree of Doctor at the University of Buenos Aires. She was also granted a Post-doctoral Research Fellowship from CONICET (2009-2011). In 2011, she was given the “Félix de Azara” Award to the best work on the flora and fauna of Argentina, which was carried out at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, UBA. Dr. Sülsen also obtained the Award to the best Thesis (Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, UBA) in 2009, and, in 2016, she was given the National Academy of Pharmacy and Biochemistry Annual Award, Thematic Area: Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences- Phytochemistry. Her main expertise areas are Pharmacognosy in general and the study of antiprotozoal natural compounds, being her projects devoted to the search of hits and lead natural compounds, especially sesquiterpene lactones and flavonoids to be used for the treatment of Chagas’ disease and leishmaniasis.
